Web 2.0- According to the book Assistive technology in the classroom: enhancing the school experiences of students with disabilities (2nd Ed), "Web 2.0 refers to applications on the World Wide Web that facilitate interaction, collaboration, and access, such as social networking sites, hosted services, and Web applications." According to www.webopedia.com, "Web 2.0 is the term given to describe a second generation of the World
Wide Web that is focused on the ability for people to collaborate and share information online."
Tool 1: Blogs
A blog is where a person can write their ideas and other people can add comments. It can contain just words, or include pictures and videos. A specific blog is called blogger. Blogger is run by Google and it is free. We would use blogger in the classroom as a tool to communicate with parents. We would tell parents weekly, what we are teaching. We would also tell parents about upcoming events and inform them about assignments that are due. Parents would be able to comment and express their ideas about the class on the blogger. Tool 2: Wikis A wiki lets people post and modify others' work. It is a tool that focuses on collaboration. Wikis can be private, invited by invitation, or public. A specific wiki is called wikispaces and its' website is: http://www.wikispaces.com/ |
Tool 3: Ning A ning lets you create your own social website. It can be private or public. http://www.ning.com/ is the website used to make a ning. |
Tool 4: Glogster A glogster allows you to make virtual multimedia poster-like products. Children enjoy glogster because they are fun to make. Glogster would be fun to make in a special education class since it has multimedia. They can be adudity, and they are extremely visual. Tool 5: VoiceThread VoiceThread lets you post a multimedia slideshow. People can look at the slideshow and comment on it five different ways. The website for making a VoiceThread is http://voicethread.com/ |
